Welcome to stevethornburg.com

This page contains information pertaining to a beta version of "anti-spyware" software that Microsoft has made available for the benefit of Windows™ users.  This product is now known as "Windows Defender".  I first installed this software on a single machine for evaluation, and have been quite pleased with it's capability and ease of use.  The user interface is clean and well-organized, and the options available facilitate a wide range of configuration possibilities.  Coupled with real-time monitoring, this package is certainly one of the best, if not the best, of all anti-spyware applications I have tinkered with.

Note that there is a new version of the software, released February 13 2006
You can download it from the Microsoft "Windows Defender" page.

Note that the previous version of MS/AS (1.0.701 dated 11/21/2005) does NOT update to "Windows Defender" automatically.  But the new installer allows you to install over existing MS/AS, and there is no reboot required.  While the user interface has changed, most of the features be be familiar to current users.

When time permits, I will add some screen captures and other information.  For now, you can read the Windows Defender Release Notes document, or the FAQ, if you have questions.
