Welcome to stevethornburg.com This page is for Michael Albrecht, and was initially focused on "Robotics for Air Hockey" reference material. All information referenced on this page is from various institutions of higher learning, unless otherwise specified. Note that various supplemental reference material has been added since the initial publication date. (24 SEP.05) |
Current Information Resources readme.txt The "readme" document is simply a text version of this document. So let's start with the basics . . . What is Motion Detection? Here's what Wiki says about motion detection. Mike, I'm sure you are well aware of many applications for motion control, so for now I will only try to give you some information that other researchers have posted to the internet, including CMU for their own air hockey robot. Interesting project, for sure! As soon as I have time, I will find you some information about other methods of object tracking. For some high-speed applications, using video streams is not always the most effocient method. The reasons are numerous, but often come down to a cost issue: high-speed video capture is expensive and in the "real world" is subject to disturbances that can negatively impact performance. Ambient light levels, reflections, physical instability, optical contamination, and other things can cause tracking systems to perform poorly. I hope this material is helpful, and will update it as time permits. Please let me know if you find broken links. Building a Robotic Arm to Play Air Hockey "robotarm.pdf" is a PDF document file Summary: "In the mid-1980s, the CMU Robotics Club built a robotic air hockey table..." Note that a PDF document reader is required, such as Adobe Reader Note also that Adobe tries to get you to install the Yahoo Toolbar, which I strongly advise against. The current version of the Adobe Reader is 7.0, and there are three (3) service packs as of 09/24/05. The service packs must be installed separate from the Reader, and they bring it up to version to 7.0.3 Alternate for robotarm.pdf , in case of broken or slow link.
